What is Social Emotional Learning (SEL)?

SEL is a learning model that comprises 5 domains namely Self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision-making.

In each domain, students will pick up soft skills where they will learn to be aware and manage their emotions, take ownership of their learning, feel and show compassion towards their peers, learn to communicate effectively to build meaningful relationships and eventually be accountable for the decisions they make.

Studies have shown that youths who have attained SEL competencies in the various above mentioned domains are more likely to graduate secondary school with readiness for the future. They exude resilience in their problem solving skills and are more adaptable to the ever changing world. This is an important holistic development that goes beyond just academic grades. The following is one of the many activities that helps to nurture the SEL competencies in the area of creating self-awareness.

16 Personality MBTI

The Myer-Briggs test was first introduced in the early mid-20th century. This is one of the tool that is widely used in schools and organisation to identify what are the personality traits of an individual. By knowing what are your usual subconscious behvaiours in various situations, we are able to identify what are the communication style that is needed for a child to develop effective learning. In this way, educators are able to identify the learning gap more accurately and focus on the necessary intervention when a child is met with a learning difficulty. Furthermore, students also become more aware of their learning needs and are able to seek help as well when the times arise.
